Quality Engineer

We are seeking a talented and motivated Quality Engineer to join our dynamic team at Ascend Elements located in Covington, GA. As a Quality Engineer supporting our APEX 0 facility, you will play a key role in ensuring the highest quality standards in our innovative lithium-ion battery materials production process. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving product quality, leading root cause investigations, managing process quality performance, and contributing to the success of new product launches. Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily production quality performance using SPC (Statistical Process Control) and other key quality tools.
  • Lead and participate in Root Cause Investigations (RCI) on non-conforming production results, utilizing 8D and Six Sigma methodology with cross-functional teams.
  • Prepare and present weekly and monthly quality performance reports for internal and external customers.
  • Maintain and update SAP Quality Management views, ensuring accurate quality data.
  • Lead change management initiatives focused on continuous quality improvement.
  • Support new product launches by establishing quality parameters and systems.
  • Participate in internal, vendor, and customer audits, ensuring adherence to ISO 9001 standards.
  • Develop and maintain Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans, and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation.
  • Analyze production data and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality.
  • Support the calibration of testing equipment and manage the calibration system.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field with 2-5 years of experience in quality within a manufacturing environment (chemical or automotive industry experience preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards.
  • Proficiency in Statistical Process Control (SPC), root cause analysis methodologies, and continuous improvement tools (Six Sigma, 8D, etc.).
  • Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SAP.
  • ASQ certifications (e.g., CQE, CQA) are highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work non-standard shifts, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee is committed to and must support the EHS management process to obtain the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification as well as participate in system standards and practices in its compliance and commitment to policies, objectives, operational controls, documentation, system guidelines, and others that the organization subscribes to as mandatory.
  • Will participate in all EHS aspects, including reporting hazards, incidents, and injury/illness without fear of reprisal.
  • Must attend an Environment, Health, and Safety Orientation program appropriate to their work environment.
  • The employee must follow 6S step-by-step methodology to maintain orderly workspaces and resources thereby enhancing productivity and safety.
  • Capable of wearing task specific personal protective equipment which may include dust mask, air purifying respirator (i.e., half and/or full faced), safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
  • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs
  • While performing the duties of this job it is required to stand, walk, and use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch when necessary for job activity.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
